Hello there, dear readers, my name is Corty and I welcome you to my first writing here and I hope you are going to enjoy my little blog post!
In this new series I am going to pick out names from the humongous manga industry, be it an old and established author or just a new and upcoming one and do a little introduction to their works! As to how frequently I am going to do this is not yet decided but expect to see some teasers for some really great works!
Our little foray into the sea of artists won’t shy away from the weird, the hardcore and neither from the hearth warming stories and parodies of popular animes. Be it someone who only ever drew a few, short doujinshis or already an established author, spanning multiple, published, and completed books.
Please also note this, dear reader, this post represents my own perspective and it is written purely for your entertainment! If you disagree with any of the points I’m about to bring up, please leave a comment, I am open for discussions any time and would be happy to reply to any and all comments!
Now, I won’t drag it out any longer, let us start with our first showcase, the artist: Nakani!

If his name gets mentioned I immediately think about the most unique trait of his works, namely the expressions he draws. Nakani has a unique gift of telling his stories through his characters’ expressions more than with written text. You may be unable to read Japanese and have a language barrier between you and the story told on the pages, but that won’t happen, not here. Most of his best selling works even feature very few dialogues between the characters, relying on the old adage “Show, don’t tell” and he, in my opinion, perfected this. Makes us so sad that this book has only been published digitally T_T

When I first found out about his works, my first reaction was to laugh at the faces -and still do, not gonna lie- and I did not take it seriously. But as I read more and more, it grew on me and now I adore and love his style, making it one of my aims to collect all his available books. He somehow perfectly balances on the line of surreal, funny yet also adorable. Those who are familiar with his style could identify his works from only one page and this is one of the telling points of a great mangaka, the fact that you can’t mistake his art with others even if it is out of context!

Now, you may ask, what kind of stories does he write? A good question, as every great mangaka has a distinct style, not just in the sense of their art but with the stories they usually tackle. Be it Nora Higuma, the goddess of shotacon stories with seductive Onee-sans, Hal with her completely crazy, yandere girls and/or mind breaking scenarios or Inuboshi the classic master of vanilla loli tales.
Same is true to Nakani as most of his books are one way or another revolve around siblings and their unconditional love for eachother. Be it his “Chikubeam! Bibibibibi!!”, “Mukashi wa Tanoshikatta” or “Imouto no Oppai ga Marudashi Datta Hanashi” books, just to mention a few. His stories mostly revolve around a pair of siblings, where they clearly have attraction between them yet as it is a taboo to even mention it, none of them act on their true feelings. The bad thing about this is that it’s only digital.

Of course it wouldn’t be much of an erotic manga if everything stays like that, would it? This is where Nakani’s speciality comes into play as his drawings convey his characters’ struggles with their own feelings towards each other. He perfectly captures -and yes over emphasises it, but that is the main selling point of his works- their struggle of loving each other yet knowing it is a big taboo in society’s eyes. He places the siblings usually in a kind of funny and/or hilarious event as they themselves dance around the topic, finally caving in to their own desires, giving satisfaction not just for their own feelings but to you too as a reader.

For me, this is the charm of his stories. A pair of young “couple”, (be it incest or not) stumbling and fumbling around while totally smitten with the other side and wanting nothing more than to become one between the bedsheets and shower each other with pleasure and love. Sprinkle this with Nakani’s ways of drawing expressions and you get something unique in your hands, that you can enjoy every time you pick it up, no matter how many times you flipped through those pages already… and that dear reader is something not every mangaka can achieve!
